I’m still here…

11 May 2006

Well, I've been told my WP needs updating. So here goes.

I've become a traitor. Yep, that's right. I've started using film. Gasp! Schock! Horror! =D I love film. It's so great. I "liberated" my dad's Pentax Spotmatic II that he's had since, oh I don't know, forever. Actually, the camera is older than me and will probably outlive me too. I've having to set everthing myself. Since film and processing is so damn spendy, I take much more care setting up my pictures. The excitement of waiting for pictures is still great!

The fun thing I've done of late was Flickr meetup number 4 (?). Held at Produce Row in inner SE, we packed into 2+ tables plus a few more. I met lots of "new" people this time, which was great fun. And, I saw others who haven't been around in a while. The best part about meetups (other than the beer!) is hearing what innovative things people are doing with photography. Such as: pinhole cameras, medium format camera, cool new lenses, and plans for the next meetup. If I hadn't have met up with these folks, I think I would just be taking pictures of landscapes and cats…nothing innovative at all.

I would put up some pictures from the meetup, but they're on film! Here's proof and more proof that I was there though (courtesy of dbgp and don'tbecreepy).

That’s so true for me too :-)

What a coincidence, Karen Nakamura’s popular website photoethnography.com has a page on the Spotmatic II that was given to her by her Dad to use for her first photography class! Have you seen it? http://www.photoethnography.com/equipment.html (Spotmatic II link listed under favorites on the left frame).

This is so weird. I’ve actually been to her website! After I liberated (not stolen!) my dad’s camera from him, I wanted to find out about the camera, and I came across her website. Her’s was super-informative and a big help. I loved her photos, too. How crazy that you recommend the site to me! =)
